When I was around 8, I decided I was faster than Vicky and could prove it! So I challenged her to a race, barefooted in the back yard.  It turned out I was wrong.  Not only did she win, but as she caught up with me she grabbed me by the waist causing me to fall...right into a fresh pile of "dog doo." NOT one of my best Vicky memories! A much better series of memories came around the same age...when Vicky and Pat and a bunch of my friends and, sometimes, other sisters, would build a giant bonfire down at our lake on Pinecrest and then skate on the frozen lake under the stars.  Truly wonderful memories!

If you knew Vicky very well at all, you knew she had a fondness for CORNY jokes!  In fact, I think all of her jokes were pretty much corny. And here is one of her favorites: What do you call a bunch of idiots, standing around drinking diet soda and eating apples??  Answer: The Moron Tab and Apple Choir!

This picture is worth a thousand memories (or at least it seems that way)!

One day I called Vicky to see how she was doing, maybe a month or two after she was diagnosed, and she was crying. I said "what's wrong" and she said she was just HAPPY. I said "OK....you don't sound happy but what are you so HAPPY about??" She said that Hal had gotten down on the floor to play with Aug and was having trouble getting up (all of us over 40 have been there).  So she reached out to help him up...and he took her hand...got up onto a knee and said: "Will you marry me all over again?"  She was very touched and said it really made her day. It is important for all of us who didn't live near her in Martinsburg to know and remember that in her life she was always surrounded by this kind of love...both by Hal and by Jill (whose friendship she deeply cherished).
